The felting workshop intends to work on the collective memories of the cultural and industrial heritage of the city of Covilhã, using the raw material of it’s main industry - sheep's wool.
Wool has unique plastic properties, and a unique feeling and texture.
Participants will work with wool as raw material and transform it into a textile support. This transformation will be done through an ancient technique - felting - which consists of agglomerating wool fibers with the aid of soap and water (the wet technique); or through the introduction and friction of a special needle, causing the fibers to intertwine (the dry technique).
This textile base can be worked and transformed into artistic objects, installations, fashion or decoration.
Technical and practical knowledge of how to felt wool will be transmitted, encouraging participants to be creative, in order to autonomously pursue a creative career in this field.
